A Mercedes team principal who has lived through eight constructors' titles and seven drivers' crowns is not easily moved - but Andrea Kimi Antonelli's first Formula 1 victory at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix appears to have done it.
Toto Wolff, speaking after Sunday's race, framed the 19-year-old's win in his second weekend as a fully signed Mercedes driver as one of the most powerful experiences of his career in the sport.
"Well, you know, it's been a while since I've been in Formula 1," Wolff said. "But that podium now was probably one of the best moments I've ever had."
The performance that triggered the line was as accomplished as the response. Antonelli converted pole into a controlled lights-to-flag victory, marshalling tyre life and energy deployment with composure that does not normally accompany a teenager's second F1 weekend. Wolff conceded he had not expected the cliff to be climbed this quickly.
"I think it's maybe come earlier than I thought," he said. "Last year we said that it's going to be a difficult year with many up and downs and mistakes. And then, bang, you know - second race and he's controlled it in the front. He's driven very well today."
Antonelli himself stayed grounded in the post-race chaos, his reflections circling back to lessons rather than glory. "There's so much that I've learned," he said. "But first of all is, you know, never relax too much - because today it went well, but it could have been worse."
Mercedes team-mate George Russell, who finds himself in the unusual position of measuring himself against a teenage rookie sitting ahead of him in the standings, was quick to deliver the team line - and to mean it.
"Yeah, really special day for Kimmy," Russell said. "Huge congratulations to him. It's obviously a day he's going to remember for forever."
Lewis Hamilton, sharing the podium in Ferrari red, joined in. The seven-time world champion is in the rare position of being able to remember what a first F1 win feels like personally, and he made the connection.
"Wow. I have already said it, but a big huge congratulations to this one here," Hamilton said. "It was amazing yesterday to be up here with him whilst he got his first pole, and now to get the first win - it's truly special getting your first Grand Prix win. I remember mine."
For the Mercedes machine, the symbolism is hard to overstate. The team's investment in Antonelli predates his F1 debut, with Wolff publicly stating for several seasons that the Italian was the long-term plan. Two race weekends in, he is already a grand prix winner and arguably the championship favourite. Wolff's "best moments" line will live in the team's archive long after the post-race adrenaline has faded - and may yet anchor a much bigger story by season's end.
